My little girl turned 5 a few weeks ago and for her birthday she requested a sewing machine. As you can imagine my heart just melted! After a little research I decided or more like she decided to go Janome Fast Lane Fuchsia Portable Sewing Machine from Amazon. Pink is her favorite color and this one really caught her eye…and I can see why. Once she picked out the machine she decided that she needed some butterfly stickers to go on it. So I purchased these Colorful Glitter Stickers. I can honestly say it was love at first sight for her. The moment she saw her sewing machine for the first time you knew she loved it!
What I am loving most about this machine is that it is small in size and the kids are able to sit and sew all by themselves. They don’t need to sit on my lap nor do I have to push the pedal for them. They are doing it all by themselves. I was a little nervous about their fingers getting too close to the needle but the plastic foot that came with the machine actually has a bit of a lip on the front so it makes it a little harder for their little fingers to get in there. I’m not saying it is impossible to them to get hurt on it, I am just saying it keeps them a little safer then a regular sewing foot. I also purchased the book Sewing School to go along with the machine. Not that I need anymore ideas, but it is great for the kids to look through and see some ideas on what they can make. Most of the time they cannot decide on just one project. They have sewn with it almost everyday since we bought it. They all are loving it and as you can imagine I am loving every second of it too! The machine works pretty good and I really don’t have any complaints other then the lack of a light. It has jammed up a few times but that is usually when a little 3 year old is behind the pedal. So yes, I would totally buy this machine if I had it to do over again.
My little girls first project was a pillow for her foxy. I may be a little biased but I think she did an amazing job! She was pretty proud of herself too!Do any of your kids love to sew? Do they have their own machines?

Awwww….what a sweet machine! Love her animal pillow!
We got our kids(girl, 8, and boy, 6, at the time) a sewing machine last year for Christmas.
They were very excited! But, they still like mine better. LOL
Our son likes to design stuff….. bags and recently designed a dress(not for him).
Our daughter likes to do anything she can for her animals!
She also likes to design her dresses.
She just picked out a sewing machine pin cushion…she HAD to have it 🙂
Our fav show…PRW!
I love that they love it!

Christina, I love that sewing machine. I did buy a little Singer sewing machine for my granddaughter but it really is no more than a toy so I have just emailed Janome here in Australia to find out if it is available in our country as well. The colour is just what my little just turned 5 granddaughter would love too.

Thank for your review Christina! I was flickering through a toy magazine today with W and when a sewing machine showed up she was like ‘I wish for that so I can sew’. It might be time for a pink Janome :-))

Sweet!! That is too cool! The earlier the better to start them doing something that they will be creative at and enjoy doning! I love the look of satisfaction and pride on her face with her fox friend.

Your little girl is darling, and I can see that she is going to take after her mother. I have some grandkids that I know would love to have that sewing machine. Maybe I will have to show this to their mother. Thanks for the post and video.

She is so adorable , and looks so proud of her fox pillow . What fun for her ( and , I expect , for her Mom as well ).

My almost 5 year old wants a sewing machine, too. She’s seen this one online and loves it purely for its color, of course. So glad to read your review. This might just be what I get her for Christmas!

How sweet! My little was 5 when she put her first doll quilt in the fair, and she won best in class! She is 7 now and is getting a 3/4 Janome hello kitty machine for Christmas.

I cannot WAIT until my 18 month old only (so far, and another baby is one the way) granddaughter is old enough for one! She will inherit all my girly things and sewing and needlework things which is quite a large collection, but I will start her on her sewing life with something like this! I also have an antique Singer hand-crank machine that will do a straight and chain stitch that I dearly love as a showpiece, but it works perfectly. Thank you for showing us this and congrats to your successful junior sewing enthusiast, who is a very lucky little girl!

So cute! I think she did an amazing job on the pillow for her fox. Looks like they are in for a lifetime of sewing! I gave my old Kenmore sewing machine to my son, and he loves it. He mostly uses the fancy stitches to make patterns and words, but he has made a few of his own pillows, bags, etc. I think it is interesting that my daughter doesn’t care too much for sewing or needle crafts, but my son loves them all. He knits and crochets, too!

Lily and Gigi both have vintage toy machines, one a Singer Sew Handy and the other a Kenmore. Theymake a chain stitch with no bobbin.but Lily is too old for it now.I’m thinking of getting her the Hello Kitty Janome.
