I can be a pushover. I just don’t like conflict and try to please others. But when I see your kid pummeling my little girl in the bouncy house while you sit their and watch, you better believe I’m gonna speak up. And when I see your kid steal money from my farm stand I’m going to get in my mini van, hunt them done and have words with them. Because this is when I won’t be a pushover. Granted it was only a dollar, but that is my money. But what do you do when they lie to your face and tell you that they didn’t steal it? Then proceed to say “It was probably my sister because she steals from you all the time.” Now if I wasn’t parked in the middle of the street with 2 other cars right behind me, I would have had more words with your kid. But today they were lucky, they got away with only a few. But next time…I will call the cops. Yes, over a dollar. If your not going to teach them right, someone has to.
What is wrong with kids and parents these days? I stole once in my life. I was 5 and stole some gum from J.J. Newberry’s. When we got home my mom asked me where I got the gum and I told her I took it from the store. Then she explained to me that stealing was wrong, dragged me into the car and back to the store to return it. On the way into the store there was a cop standing outside and she told the cop that I just stole some gum. SHE TOLD ON ME…to a cop! But let me tell you, I learned a lesson and never stole again! You taught me right mom. And yes, I will do the very thing if one of my kids ever steal.
Honestly, am I the only one that thinks parents need to stop giving their kids so many materialistic things and start spending more time with them and teaching them right from wrong?! What happened to pleases and thank yous? Or how about being greeted when standing in the checkout lane. I mean really, I wont bite. Unless your kid is pummeling my little girl in the bouncy house or stealing from my farm stand…just sayin!

you go girl! I once took some tiny Hello Kitty glues and my mom made me go back and apologize to the clerk. I was so embarrassed that I never did that again!

Good for you! You stand up for yourself and your kids. I love that you followed after them. Kids need to learn to take responsibility for their actions. I hope they learned something. And I hope they will be better for it.

AMEN! You get 'em!!!!

My mom did the same thing to me the one time I stole something! We were at a water park today and some big kids weren't watching where they were going and the knocked over my toddler. I told them next time they need to watch out for little kids because they can't move out of your way very fast. They looked at me like I was an alien!

Some people have no shame, good for you for standing up to them. Too many people have no respect for other people.

Good for you!!! I wish more people would do what you did!! I am one of those moms that speaks up, and when my youngest was a teenager it would embarrass her. But today, as a ripe old 22 year old, she does the same thing and I am so proud of her!

Good for you…. maybe you won't change these kids because obviously, their parents have instilled NO RESPECT for anyone, but maybe you scared them enough that they won't steal from your farm stand anymore! And if they do it again… call the cops!

UGH! What is WRONG with people these days? I stole some candy from the grocery store when I was a kid. My mom marched me back in there and made me take it to the customer service window and apologize. And I will do the same if my kids ever steal.

Oh my God! That is horrible!! I stole once when I was a kid too – a bead necklace I really wanted from a store. My Mom dragged me back in there, made me apologize and give it back. Then proceeded to tell every one what I had done – including my Grandmother. I was mortified.
Good for you!!!

No you're not the only who thinks society has gone backwards and doesn't care. I hate what it has become, I refuse to have my kids following this way. This is a big reason why I quit being a manager because I couldn't stand managing all the little brats that don't give a damn except for themselves. Step up and shout out for respect and compassion!

GOOD FOR YOU!
I HATE going to the bounce house. Well, not totally, but it's awful when the big kids are there. SOOO much better when school is in session and the parents and little ones can partake in fun together.

100% agree with you!!! I stole once and my mom caught me. She told the store manager. I NEVER stole again! More mom's need to make sure that they watch their kids and don't always take their side. I hate when parents think that their kids can do no wrong too!!

I love this post! My 2.5 year old boy took some ear plugs when we were in a chemist. I discovered them when we were all strapped into the car and ready to go home after a stressful shopping trip. I bundled him and his infant brother out of the car and back to the chemist. He is nearly 4 now and every time we go in to the chemist he tells me that he isn't going to take any ear plugs today! Hopefully that one time will stay with him and we won't have to repeat the lessen.

I hear ya! My younger son once took some tiny hockey sticks from a team-mates house at the year-end team party. He told us his friend gave them to him, and we believed him. Then a couple of days later, and email went out to all team parents saying the said sticks were discovered to be missing after the party, and perhaps someone accidentally took them home (it was nice that they put it so tactfully). We put our son in the car with the sticks and made him go up to their door to return them. He was about 8, and crying the whole way in the car, mortified. Too bad, so sad. The family wasn’t home, so we drove to the hockey rink to hunt them down there, and there in the stands, our shaking, embarrassed & VERY sorry son returned them. Lesson learned. He’s almost 12 now, and we’ve never had another sticky-finger incident.

My site covers a lot of the same topics as yours and I think we could greatly benefit from each other. If you might be interested feel free to shoot me an e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you! Terrific blog by the way!
