Did you know you could make your own dress form for a fraction of the cost of a store bought one? I never did until I did a quick search on etsy and came across this shop that sells patterns for toddler sized dress forms that you make yourself. How fabulous is that?!
The pattern cost $7.95 and is a huge savings from the $65 ones I had been eyeing. Granted they don’t come on a cute stand and mine surly isn’t as professional looking…but hey it was cheap and I made it. That has to count for something! I purchased a 2t-4t size form but they also have a 9-24 month sized one available as well. The dress pictured is a 2t and fits the dress form perfectly.
The pattern was really easy to follow and took me about 1 hour to make.
The only problem I came across was that my arm and neck holes didn’t exactly line up. When pinning them together I noticed a bit of a gap and really should have trimmed down the oval shapes, but I didn’t and now I wish I would have. They look kinda wonky to me. Also I used a lightweight cotton fabric but would recommend using a heavier weight fabric so that you don’t see the seams and the bunches of batting through the fabric. It kinda bugs me…ok it really bugs me.
But dispite all of that I still love this dress form and highly recommend this pattern! The dress form sits really well on a flat surface and would be just as fun with a tie attached to the top so that it hung.
So if your like me and want a dress form but don’t want to pay the price of a store bought one, why not give this pattern a try.

Wow, what an ingenious idea! I’m looking for a toddler form ideally for 2 to 4 years but they just don’t exist except for the display ones. I am really impressed with this idea and how quick it was to make. What did you fill it with?

it took about 2 hours to make and i actually used stuffing from a cheap walmart pillow i had. i think the pillow was only $3 and had way more filling then a bag of batting. plus the batting from the pillow was much stiffer then usual batting.
