It has a little vintage look to it but with bright colors. It was the perfect little bundle to make the girls a play bakery with! Yes, those are cakes and cupcakes made from fabric. Trust me, they are super easy to make and you will love them just as much as your kiddos do!

A bunch of you have asked about my cleaning /broom closet. Yes, it is finished…and has been for weeks now. Apparently I am not so good with showing the after pictures. Why? Well I have moved on to other projects and just forgot to share it. But I promise I will share the before and afters soon. For now, here is a little sneek peek.

We almost didn’t get to color our Easter eggs this year. We were on a major egg shortage in this house for a few days. Yes, I could have bought some eggs at the store but I find it really hard to buy eggs at the store when we have laying hens outside. Unfortunately our little egg collector had realized that collecting eggs is so much funner when you bring a sled up the hill with you to gather the eggs and then slid back down to the house. The only problem with this is that he always forgot to bring with the egg basket with him. So as you can imagine 5 eggs floating around the bottom of the sled while he is standing up “surfing” down the hill isn’t the best way to collect eggs. Yup, I was that mom that encouraged such an act. Shame on me I know, but it was so fun to watch, especially when he would end up hitting a patch of grass and land on his heiny. I was secretly wishing he would fall on all of the eggs and learn a lesson…unfortunately that never happened! Well now spring is here and the snow is gone so our egg supply is back up.
Of course our eggs never look like the ones on the front of the box, but the kiddos don’t seem to care. They were still so eggcited over them. I kinda like the vintagey colors of them. You never would know it but there are blue, green, yellow, pink and orange eggs in that basket.

My little boy turned six last week. We celebrated his birthday with a yellow and green John Deere cake.

I had read on numerous blogs that you could give wood an aged wood look by using vinegar and steel wool, so when I bought a new stool for my newly renovated bathroom I had to give it a try. I’m still so surprised at how well it came out. It really does look like aged wood! Who would have known?! Here is the stool that I started out with. Hello, bright, brand-new wood.All I used was some vinegar, a piece of steel wool, a paint brush and a bowl to mix it in. Use a junk bowl, because it will get stained, and ruined. I read to use white vinegar, but I didn’t have any so I used some apple cider vinegar instead.All I did was just place my steel wool in the bowl and poured vinegar on top of it. I poured enough so that the the steel wool was submerged.  I let it set for at least 3-4 hours. I guess longer would be better, but if you are the impatient type of person like me 3-4 hours is all it took to get the color I reached. Most people do let it set overnight and I am curious if the shade would have been darker if I would have let it soak overnight. Next time I will try and be more patient to see.Once the steel wool soaked for the 3-4 hours, I got my paintbrush wet with the vinegar and steel wool mixture and brushed it onto the stool. I let the stool dry. Then I washed off the stool because it had a little bit of a cloudy film on it. Plus it smelled like vinegar. You may not mind the smell, but it was too strong for me. I let the stool dry once more and that was it. Easy-Peasy!
Apparently the color that the wood changes to depends on the type of wood being used. I think it is pretty cool that this works and is much funner to do then use stains. Have any of you used this technique before?
