Last week the kiddos wrote their letters to Santa. We used these cute printables from Blush Printables. I always like to use some cute festive paper for them to write their letters on. It just seems more special that way. At first none of them knew what to ask for. Then my son decided to ask for a tractor…big surprise there. My two little girls decided they would both like a computer.
This little girl wants an orange one.
And this little girl wants a pink one. She really took her time drawing her picture to make sure Santa knows which one she wants. There is something pretty special about that pink v-tech computer (that has a little mouse attached to) that just makes this little girl glow.
So I’m curious, do you send out your kiddos letters to Santa? Or do you save them like me?
Cutting down the tree.
A few weeks ago we headed out to the PT tree farm to cut down the perfect Christmas tree.On our way there we rocked out to Christmas carols in the car and talked about what kind of tree we were going to cut down.
We had big plans. We were going to look at every single tree until we found the perfect one. We wanted the tallest tree we could find. My son was going to help Daddy cut down the tree with his chainsaw and then the girls were going to help Daddy drag it out.
Of course all of our plans changed the moment they got out into the snow.
They quickly forgot we were there to cut down our Christmas tree. They had more important things to do… like eating snow.
Playing hide’n go seek.
Or making snow marshmallows.
And of course snowball fights.
While the kiddos were playing Daddy and I spotted the perfect tree.
Sure it was a bit short…but it was nice and round.
We watched as Daddy cut down our tree and we all cheered as it fell.
Then the kiddos went back to playing as quickly as they could. I know for certain the hubby and I were way more excited about cutting down the tree then the kiddos were.
Christmas branches for the kiddos.
A few weeks ago the kiddos were wondering where our Christmas branch was. We already had our tree up and decorated but apparently they missed our Christmas branch. They were always a joke for the hubby and I, but truthfully they were a huge part of our past Christmas’s. So instead of going without the infamous Christmas branch I decided to decorate a few branches and place them in the kiddos rooms. Now the kiddos have a pretty little Christmas branch to look at and we can be reminded of our past Christmas’s.
As you can see, the girls Christmas branch is decorated with tissue paper flowers and battery operated flowered lights. Goodies I already had in my crafting supplies.
The girls are beyond excited to have their very own Christmas branch.
For my little guy I decided to decorate his Christmas branch with what he loves most…John Deere tractors.
I just took a bunch of his little tractors and tied them onto the branches with yellow yarn.
Quick and free…but greatly loved!
I just love how a simple little Christmas branch can bring such joy and happiness to them and I have to admit they are quit magical all lit up at night.
Do any of you put little trees in the kiddos bedrooms? Or anywhere else? They are so cute I could totally see myself putting them in every room next year!

2012 Advent Calendar
I love advent calendars! I think it is such a fun tradition to have. I mean who doesn’t love opening 25 presents?!The kiddos love opening them up as much as I love making them.
This year I decided to use an old wooden ladder that we had outside with a bunch of cute socks that I just purchased at Walmart.
I actually purchased the socks because I was in need of some new ones but when I got them home I thought they would make the cutest little advent calendar tied all over the ladder. So I guess I will be waiting a few more weeks for my new socks…all for the sake of crafting.
Filling advent calendars can be tricky. I try to fill them up with useful things and fun activities to do with the kiddos. Of course they get a few pieces of candy and some cheap little toys, but for the most part I try to keep it cheap and practical.
I ended up putting the ladder/advent calendar in the kitchen since I spend so much time in there plus it is fun to stare at the pretty little white lights.
Since I only purchased a few pairs of socks I still needed some more items to hide my treats inside, so I ended up searching around the house for anything that matched. You will be surprised by how many things you can find already in your house…and they are free! I even ended up using some burlap bags that we had left from our wedding. Once I had all the bags, socks and boxes filled with goodies I printed off some free advent calendar numbers here from HGTV. When the kiddos woke up from their naps they thought that I had made our Christmas tree. Oh they are too cute! And yes, as you can imagine they are driving me crazy already wondering when they can start opening those little gifts up!
Here are some of my past advent calendars. In 2010 I filled canning jars and dollar store bags full of treats.I even made a special beer filled advent calendar for the hubby one year.
As you can imagine he LOVED it and may even get one again this year.
Last year we did a Christmas book advent calendar. It was fun but my kiddos prefer a candy/present filled advent calendar more. Plus I really should have removed the Christmas books from the book case a bit sooner. We had already been reading those same books all year long.
Do you do an advent calendar in your house? What do you hide inside for treats?
Some fun news and not so fun news.
So my computer is back and in working order. I wish I could say that I have been crafting a ton since I last posted but the truth is we took a family vacation to California. So I spent a few days preparing for the trip and even more time recovering from the trip! It has taken all of us a few days to get back to normal life, although I think our hearts are still in California with our cousins and family. We miss them so, but we are so thankful for the time we spent there…with the exception of our (red-eye) flight home. Oh yes lots of pictures are to come, but right now I am trying to get things in order for next week. Next week I will be having surgery. So I will be absent from this blog again for a little bit, but once I am feeling better I will be posting all of our pictures from Halloween, our California trip and even a few sewing projects I did weeks ago. Hope you are all having fun crafting for the Holidays! For the first time I am having to buy all of our gifts…and it is not fun! There is something so special about making handmade gifts for everyone.
A bumblee bee birthday
On the 4th we celebrated my little girls 4th birthday…her GOLDEN BIRTHDAY! Even though we don’t do big birthday parties I still try to make them special. She had requested a bumble bee party because a few weeks ago a bee got stuck in her britches and she was stung 3 times. Most people would have been traumatized over such an event but my daughter uses it for inspiration. Crazy little girl of mine!
I bought all the printables from paperglitter on etsy and the rest of the goodies were things I either had around the house or bought at Walmart.
The cake was really fun and easy to make. I just used a glass bowl to bake the cake in and then frosted it will yellowish-brown frosting. I used the side of a cake decorating tool to make the ridges all around the cake like a hive. Then I used some of the bee printables to decorate the top of it.
Our parties are never over the top with the prettiest details but they sure are loved!
And in the end that is all that matters.
Notice that non-birthday boy getting ready to blow out all of his sisters candles. So typical isn’t it?!
The Once-ler, The Lorax and a Brown Bar-ba-loot {Handmade Halloween Costumes}
Yes, I know that Halloween was like over 2 months ago (and yes I am totally backdating this post) but I just had to share these pictures with all of you. You have already seen The Lorax and Brown Bar-ba-loot costumes and my little guy’s Once-ler costume but you never did get to see them all together. The little brown bar-ba-loot is my favorite costume in the bunch! I know orange is my favorite color and all, but those big ears are just the cutest things ever!
They were so fun to watch all dressed up and reacting scenes from the movie. Even though they took me weeks to make it was worth every minute! I’m just hoping that next year for Halloween they do not want to be anything that requires fur fabric.
Broken and sick.
So my computer is being sent away for some much needed work and all I have is my hubby’s ancient computer to work from, so sadly you wont be able to see the bazillion Halloween pictures I took…at least for a few weeks. I know you are all so sad about that, aren’t you? The truth is, the first 10 minutes when the kiddos were all dressed up in their costumes were the best! They were so hysterically funny and had such a great time, but that quickly faded. I am just so glad that I live with my camera on my hip and was able to capture those few minutes because Daddy missed them all dressed up and so didn’t everyone else except our bestie neighbor. My sweet little girl has a bad case of pink eye and all 3 have ear infections right now so we wanted to keep our germs to ourselves. We did manage to make it to 5 houses before we called it quits. I was kinda getting tired of my little guy telling everyone about his sister’s pink eye. Anyone who knows him knows that he will tell you anything and everything. There are no secrets with him around. He thought it was fun to ring the door bell and say “trick or treeeat, sorreeee we can’t come insiiiiiide bcause my sister has pink eyeeeee!” I have to admit it did have a catching ring to it. Well that is our life right now. Memories are what we are making here folks…perfect or not!
So my blog is going to be quiet for a bit and if I don’t answer your emails right away at least you know why. My hubby’s computer is ancient and slow and I will not be able to use it everyday. Right now it seems as though a lot of you are making play tents and casserole carriers for the Holidays so I will answers all of your questions as quickly as I can.
Just bee-cuz it’s her Golden Birthday!
So my little girl turns 4 on the 4th…it’s her golden birthday! She requested a bumble bee birthday weeks ago and I think it is just the perfect way to celebrate her “golden birthday”. We don’t do huge birthday parties in this house. We usually celebrate with just our little family of 5, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to make it super special for her. Plus being a crafty momma makes it hard not too! A few days ago I saw these bumble bee costumes at Walmart and thought they would be perfect for the party. So first thing this morning we headed to Walmart to take advantage of their 75% off sale. I planned on buying just one for the birthday girl but she really wanted one for her little sister too. How can you say no to that one?! Plus they were only $5.74 folks…score!
The moment we got home they had to try them on…aren’t they too cute?
I have done a few searches for bumble bee parties and who would have known there were so many cute ones out there. Just look at this cake from Giggles Galore! Actually the whole entire party is adorable and a must see! I love looking at parties that are over the top. I truly appreciate all the works that go into them and all the small details they think of.
Our parties are never even close to those, but we love ours just the same. I always do more then what the kiddos seem to care about, but parties are just another way for me to release my creativity and do a little crafting. The other day I bought this bumble bee printable party kit from Paperglitter just bee-cuz I loved all those little bees. Now that I have been printing off a few of the pages I have found that I love the package even more then what I first thought. It is full of cute bumblebee sweetness! I already know that my golden birthday girl is going to love it too! So have any of you thrown a bumblebee bee party before? Any cute ideas for me? Please do share!
