“Yes, I am the Lorax who speaks for the trees, which you seem to be chopping as fast as you please. But I’m also in charge of the brown Bar-ba-loots, who played in the shade in their Bar-ba-loot suits and happily lived eating truffula fruits. Now, thanks to your hacking my trees to the ground, there’s not enough truffula fruit to go ’round!”Now that their costumes are finally finished we have been reciting our favorite lines from The Lorax all day. The cutest thing is listening to a 2 year old tell you to “stop chopping down my trees!”
So to make the lorax costume I used orange fur that I ordered from Fabric.com. It was a little pricey but sometimes that is how it goes. I ordered 2 yards but only ended up using 1 1/2 yards. So if you are ever looking for some small orange fur scraps let me know. The costume is a one piece suit and is velcroed in the front. I used their one piece snowsuits as templates. I started off making them a little big so there was a lot of altering to be done. They are still a little too big, but I like to make things that way so we can get more use out of them. They are still wearing last years costumes all the time.
I made the eyebrows and mustache out of a yellow duster that I found at Walmart. I just took the duster apart and then glued a few of the sections onto the costume to make eyebrows. I made the mustache in a similar way but instead I attached it to a stick. I knew that she would not want all that fur around her mouth all night long. Plus how would she be able to eat all that candy?!
Now for the Bar-ba-loot…seriously, can she get any cuter?!
I made her costume the same way as the lorax costume just with brown fur instead. The brown fur fabric was also purchased at Fabric.com. Her costume was really easy because all she needed was two large rounded ears. For those I cut out the shapes I wanted and then lightly filled them with batting. Then I hot glued the ears right onto the costume. I am really hoping that the hot glue holds up. It was just too hard hand stitching all of those pieces onto the costumes. Fur fabric is very thick to sew through by hand.
Of course every bar-ba-loot needs a bag of marshmallows. Although my 2 year old tells me that The Once-ler is the one who gives out the marshmallows. Geesh!
Her sweet little nose is just a piece of fur fabric cut into a circle and then stuck on with tape.
I’m pretty sure these two cannot get any cuter!
Now we are just waiting for The Once-ler to join them and we are off to find some treats! Have a Happy Halloween!
We are putting the finishing touches on our costumes today. The kiddo’s are already running around like wild animals. It must be the big orange and brown fur ball costumes. If you are looking for a last minute treat for Halloween, why not make some Monster Munch! We made it last year and we will be making it again this year…it was a huge hit!
St. Francis of Assisi
Last night at Sunday School they celebrated All Saints’ Day by dressing up as Saints. My son dressed up as St. Francis of Assisi. I quickly made him a brown robe from a sheet and a tonsure from the leftover brown fur that I had. Funny how I was just wondering what I was going to do with all that leftover brown fur. I got most of the ideas for the costume at Catholic Icing.
We practiced all day who he was going to be dressed up as and what St. Francis of Assisi was most known for. Thankfully by the end of the day he remember who he was going to be dressed up as and it went from St. Peeses Reeses to St. Francis of Assisi. Thank goodness because there were a few other words in there that were totally not appropriate for church.
Since St. Francis of Assisi was the Patron Saint of animals it was only fitting that he brought piggy and chippy with him to church.
He was so excited about his costume and loved his tonsure the most! Of course the tonsure would have looked much better if he didn’t have such a mop on top of his head right now. And I couldn’t help but think that his tonsure resembled more of a Joe Dirt mullet then a tonsure but that is all right, he loved it anyways and was so excited to head off to school!

Fabri-Quilt blogging design team
I am so excited to announce that I have been asked to be part of the Fabric-Quilt blogging design ring!
I am sure you are all wondering what the Fabric-Quilt blogging design ring is, am I right? Well we are a group of four bloggers who will be choosing fabrics from the Fabric-Quilt line and then completing a project with those fabrics. After we complete our projects we will be sharing a tutorial for it on the Fabric-Quilt blog Inspired by Fabric. But the best part is that after each tutorial is posted a giveaway for the fabrics that were used in the project will be given away! Sounds fun doesn’t it?! So make sure you head on over to Inspired by Fabric to read more about the amazingly talented ladies that I will be designing with. I think it is safe to say that I am way out of my league in this group and completely honored to be part of it!
Sewing outside
I spent the afternoon sewing…outside. I’m not sure why I haven’t thought of this before. I think it is kinda brilliant, don’t you?! I’m always torn between sewing and being outside but not this time.I just sat and sewed the kiddo’s Halloween costumes while they played outside. Ok, so maybe I spent most of my time yelling at them to stop fighting but whateva. They were still fun to watch and they totally thought I was crazy for sewing outside.
But it was the best way to keep all of that brown and orange fur out of the house, especially when the girls thought it would be fun to make costumes for their animals with all the leftover furry fur. Yup, it was the best idea ever to sew outside today!
Wilbur and Ray
I had to make sure Wilbur and Ray made their presence on my blog again this year.
And really it is more like Wilbur III and Ray Jr. to be correct.
I love that the kids want to name our pigs Wilbur and Ray each year. It would be weird to name them something else, wouldn’t it?
So see you again next year, Wilbur and Ray…or the next time we have bacon.
Harvesting the pumpkin patch.
We have spent the past few weeks harvesting the pumpkin patch. Yes, we could probably harvest the whole thing in about 1 hour, but it is more fun taking our time…especially since we have very little to harvest this year.In past years we have had trailer loads of pumpkins and gourds, not this year.
My girls still think it more fun to find the smallest pumpkins and gourds then the biggest. I guess it is more fun to find something that you can carry. Me…I like to find the biggest!
Of course picking the patch is more fun while wearing candycorn hats, but we were missing our chocolate candy corn.

A diaper bag for Purse Week
How many of you participated in Purse Week over at A Lemon Squeezy Home?
Unfortunately I didn’t add my photos to the flickr group in time but I still wanted to share with you what I made. I ended up making my sister in law (who is preggers) a diaper bag.I was going to make up my own pattern for a diaper bag but decided to spend more time sewing baby goodies then trying to figure out the construction of a new bag. I ended up using this pattern from Super Orange Sewing that I found on etsy. It was a super easy pattern to follow and highly recommend it! The bag ended up being a lot larger then I had expected but is the perfect size for a diaper bag.
I cannot wait to make more of these. I think bags always make the best gifts, don’t you? Now don’t forget to check out all the amazing bags in the flickr group from Purse Week!
